That sleek looking blur that just roared past  you just might be a 2018 Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400.

Infiniti is not playing with this car–they are deadly serious about making a name and building a rep for this particular model.

Of course, the big elephant in the room in the superfast midsized luxury sedan market are from BMW in the form of its M sedans. But never mind.  The Infiniti has a couple of cards to play that I think one-up …

2017 Honda Accord Sport Touring: A thorn in competitors’ sides

By Don Hammonds

It must be pretty frustrating as an automaker selling intermediate family cars when it comes to Honda’s almost peerless Accord.

While Honda has made judicious additions and refinements in the Accord in it current generation for the last four or five years, it still is the same basic model introduced several years ago. And it is still by far and away the best intermediate family sedan you can buy. Nobody even comes close–and that includes the archrival Toyota Camry.

Looking for a way to pull away from the crowd?

Try Volkswagen’s 2017 Volkswagen CCR-Line Executive with Carbon Sedan. with its presence, Audi-like ambiance, and brisk acceleration and plenty of value, you won’t be disappointed.

Ours had a base price of $37,820, with delivery costs, it totaled $38,685.

2016 Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400 3.0t AWD: Long name, “hella” car

By Don Hammonds

Everybody knows red is the color for passion–and sex.

We have never thought that Infiniti products needed a name that exudes passion. The cars do that for themselves, thank you very much.

But this special iteration of the Q50–not a car noted for being cold-blooded OR slow—adds a lot of spice to a product already blessed with a reputation for being an enthusiast’s ride.

Frankly, we think Infiniti to stand to cut a few words out of the long name–every time …

2016Volkswagen Golf R: Everything you’ve heard—believe it

By Don Hammonds

So-called pocket rockets are all the rage these days.

Ford Focus RS, Honda Civic Si, Subaru WRX STi, Volkswagen GTI and others mainly designed for overseas markets all have their own loyalists, enthusiasts and advocates.

But we at Automobile Journal had a chance to get behind the wheel of a car that you almost certainly don’t want to put in  your pocket, and as for rocket, well…we strongly suggest you hold on tight. And all those others better run for …

VW Beetle Dune: It’s golden–figuratively and literally

By Don Hammonds

The fun thing about Volkswagen’s Beetle is that it can be transformed into countless distinctive versions, each with its own personality.

This time around, some bold colors, striking interior features and some nifty exterior features have resulted in the 2016 Beetle Dune, a way cool version of the Beetle that looks as though it belongs somewhere out west on a vast desert.

What VW does is take a basic Beetle coupe, give  it coat of a gorgeous yellow gold color …

2016 Lexus IS300 AWD sedan: The stealth bomber with the velvet touch

By Don Hammonds

Lexus’ IS300 AWD is just the ticket for those who want to avoid the obvious, and go for the road less traveled.

Just about everybody aspires to own a BMW Three Series or perhaps nowadays, an Audi A4. But those of us who loathe anything that “everybody” has, and wants to make a statement with their choice of a sports sedan can go with the 2016 Lexus IS300 sedan.

If you are wondering what people I’m talking about, consider yours truly.

If James Bond was a family man, I strongly suspect that Nissan’s new Maxima would be on his list of possible rides for the kiddos.

Sleek, sexy, sly as a leopard, the 2016 Maxima is beyond a doubt, one of the coolest cats in the full-size sport sedan field.  It’s reliably fast without slamming you against the seats or upside a door panel. It corners and stops and steers like some of the better sports sedans I’ve driven.  And …

Dress it up in black, add some snappy wheels, and the Hyundai Sonata looks like –and acts like–the perfect limousine for the “Green is Good”  crowd.

[caption id="attachment_7956" align="alignnone" width="640"] 2016 Sonata Hybrid[/caption]

First and foremost to that constituency, the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid is  plenty economical–fuel economy is up 10 percent and the car now has a combined rating of 42 miles per gallon (compared to only 38 combined last year)  40 city and 44 highway, both up from the previous model.

2015 Volkswagen Passat: Conservatively elegant, and a sports sedan to boot

      By Don Hammonds

Could the 2015 Volkswagen Passat 1.8 SE and its fellow versions of VW’s midsized sedan be the Bentleys of the family car segment?
Could be!
First, they are conservatively elegant. Second, they handle quite well, and are fast in a very subtle sort of way. And they are impeccably put together.  Sound like any  car you kjnow?  Bentleys, of course.
Now, we are not suggesting that the Passat is a good substitute purchase for the Bentley.
But we are saying that each …
