We bet you’ll never guess what brand of car this concept is.
It’s an Aston Martin. Yes, an Aston Martin, purveyor of some of the most luxurious, and fast cars in the world.
The car in question here is the Cygnet, a new luxury commuter concept car that Aston Martin unveiled today. It should really come as no surprise to anyone familiar with what is happening in the drive for fuel efficiency and “green living” around the world, that luxury car makers would be thinking small.
If they are to be able to compete in the future market place, they have to be ready to mix their product portfolio with models which maintain the essence of the brand while at the same time getting excellent fuel mileage.
In releasing the pictures of the car, an Aston Martin statement said, “The Cygnet concept represents a creative, environmentally conscious solution, being small, yet with presence – and highly fuel efficient, now combined with the prestige of Aston Martin’s luxury brand ownership. “
The statement added, “Work on the concept is ongoing and will continue into 2010 when it is hoped that it will become a production reality initially available to Aston Martin customers in the UK and Europe.”
Can the U.S. be far behind? We think not, given the new federal CAFÉ standards that mandate 35 miles per gallon for a car maker’s fleet by 2016.
Aston Martin is simply getting there a bit earlier.
