Editor’s Note:

For the next few weeks, we will publish a 2017 Buyers Guide for as many brands as we can find information to publish.  We are starting with Ford, and tomorrow’s buyers guide will feature Nissan.

By Don Hammonds

For Ford, 2017 looks like a year of red hot performance cars and doing whatever it takes to keep their Number 1 in sales record intact.

Here’s a look at what is ahead for some of Ford’s most popular products:

Mustang:

Enthusiast customers will continue to …

InfinitiQ60 Red Sport 400 Coupe

Some cars are just beyond expression in words.

You gotta drive it instead.

Such a car is Infiniti’s Q60 Red Sport 400 AWD.

Exhilarating. Chock full of tech.  Awesome exhaust sounds. And lusty, catch me if you can driving thrills.

To be clear, I would not describe this as a sports car per se. It is a luxury grand touring coupe–a strong handling high speed car that is meant to be driven on weekend trips and cross country journeys.

Of course, this car is designed …

2017 VW Golf Alltrack 4Motion: Hitting the off-road in style

By Don Hammonds

When it comes to compact SUVs, the word for today is “rugged.”

Thanks to the influence of Subaru’s hotter than hot Crosstrek, every car company seems to be adding some body cladding, raising ground clearance and installing new macho-looking interiors into one or models in their lineup.

Volkswagen is now getting into the act with its cool, sleek new Golf Alltrack,  which is based on the company’s Golf Sportwagen.

It shares some of the advantages of the Sportwagen–simple, intuitive controls, really …

2017 Infiniti QX80 and 2017 Nissan Armada: Good cars needing more unique identities

By Don Hammonds

When you see either the 2017 Infiniti QX80 Premium and the 2017 Nissan Armada Platinum, you will likely notice one thing: They are big-time big.

But bigger in this case is truly better, with each of them offering the last word in comfort, safety and hominess behind the wheel. The Armada is a full-size–some might say plus-size SUV that can haul up to 8,500 pounds if equipped appropriately, and the same can be said for the Infiniti QX80 Premium. …

2017 North American International Auto Show: Families–rich or otherwise—rule!

By Don Hammonds

Most of us car writers usually try to pick a main theme every year following the 2017 North American International Auto Show, now underway in Detroit.

Sometimes it’s sports cars. Sometimes it’s sport utility vehicles. Other times it’s hybrid or electric cars. Whatever.

Well,  this year, it’s clearly family cars. And that means a totally new affordable family sedan like the 2018 Toyota Camry. Or the livery for the well-heeled family–the also all new Lexus LS500. Or a dependable ride …

2016 Infiniti Q50 Red Sport 400 3.0t AWD: Long name, “hella” car

By Don Hammonds

Everybody knows red is the color for passion–and sex.

We have never thought that Infiniti products needed a name that exudes passion. The cars do that for themselves, thank you very much.

But this special iteration of the Q50–not a car noted for being cold-blooded OR slow—adds a lot of spice to a product already blessed with a reputation for being an enthusiast’s ride.

Frankly, we think Infiniti to stand to cut a few words out of the long name–every time …

2016 Fiat 500x: Hey, ya gotta love it!

By Donald Hammonds

You know the routine.

You buy a new car and it just seems like the same old, same old. Three Box design, five to six seat space, nothing special on the equipment list, and is so boring that you yawn just thinking about it.

Well—if you can reduce your size expectations, juice your adventure quotient as high as you can, and prepare yourself for a ball of fun to drive–we have a car you may want to look at. And …

2017 Nissan Pathfinder: More power, more tech, same pizazz and good value proposition

By Donald Hammonds

I remember Nissan Pathfinders from days gone by long ago.

Back then, it was a kick-ass offroader that seemed to be at home in the outback, so to speak.   It was a nice looking, ruggedly built SUV that had a bouncy ride, okay but not flashy interior and seemed to last forever, based on the number of old ones we would see —and still see–on the road.

But the Pathfinder of today  has been transformed  into a classy looking family car …

2016 Lexus RX 350: Style leader and then some

By Don Hammonds

Few auto companies can claim a dramatic, across the board styling transformation as Lexus can these days.

No matter where you look, Lexus products are generally at the head of the pack when it comes to contemporary styling with a flair in the luxury business right now.  And that’s a far cry from the days of modestly styled, “good” cars that were pretty much  subdued.

No more. With the striking spindle style grille, the use of what I would call …

2017 Chrysler Pacifica Limited:One of the best new cars on the market

By Don Hammonds

We will get right to the point and declare that there is now a new gold standard for minivans: Chrysler’s all-new Pacifica.

Thanks to some creative thinking, a styling design that is second to none, a walth of impeccable workmanship- and controls that are all intuitive, the Pacifica amply shows what happens with teamwork, a blank piece of paper, and a super keen awareness of how the minivan market has changed in the almost three decades since Chrysler founded the …
